Melissa Clary – Owner, Tax Manager
Melissa has been self employed since 2005 and is the former owner of Kruger and Clary, CPAs. She decided to branch to form Key2 Accounting in 2013 so she could focus on helping businesses with their accounting, payroll and tax needs.
Melissa graduated from Colorado State University in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and has been a CPA since 2000. She specializes in QuickBooks, Business Consulting, Accounting and Income Tax Preparation and Planning.
In 2009, Melissa was on the list of Women of Influence and Forty under 40, in the Northern Colorado Business Report. In 2011 she won firm of the year with the accountants group PASBA. The Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce awarded her young professional of the year in 2012.
Carol McElwain – Owner, Payroll Manager
Carol McElwain is Payroll Operations Manager with Payroll Vault, the sister company of Key2 Accounting. Carol joined the team in 2011 and became part-owner in 2015. She has over 30 years of varied business experience ranging from private business office support, to restaurant management, to owning a music therapy record label.
Carol attended Western Michigan University where she majored in commercial art. When Carol isn’t at the office she can be found working on her horse ranch and boarding facility near Eaton, CO where she lives with her family. She spends her free time painting.
Myriah Milton – Owner, Accounting Manager
Myriah joined the firm in 2012 as a staff accountant and became part-owner in 2015. Myriah became an enrolled agent in 2015.
Myriah focuses on sales tax, business accounting and income tax planning and preparation.
Myriah graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Her previous experience includes completing audits of financial statements for privately held companies, not for profit entities, and employee benefit plans before joining the Key2 Accounting Fort Collins CPAs staff. Her interests include gardening, canning, knitting, and sewing.
Miranda Thompson – CPP/Payroll Specialist
Miranda joined the team of Fort Collins accountants at Payroll Vault in 2015 as a payroll specialist. She received her Associates in Accounting from Front Range Community College in 2014 and has several years of payroll and bookkeeping experience. Miranda earned the designation of Certified Payroll Processor (CPP) when she passed the exam in April of 2019. When Miranda is not working with numbers she enjoys relaxing on long motorcycle trips or curled up with a book and her pets.
Madison Pruitt – Office Manager
Madison joined the Key2 Accounting in 2017 as our office manager/administrative assistant. Madison is responsible for client communication related to portals, billing and income tax filings. She is a graduate of Washington State University with her Bachelor’s in Hospitality Business Management. When she is not working Madison enjoys kayaking, getting wrapped up in a good book, and traveling with her two adventuresome kitties.
Collin Cathey – Staff Accountant
Collin joined our team October of 2017. He graduated from Colorado State University and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Colorado State University in December of 2017. He specializes in individual tax returns, corporate tax returns, bookkeeping and sales tax. Collin is currently studying for the CPA exam since he has recently obtained the pre-requisite Masters courses to sit for the exam. Collin has a particular interest in taxes and enjoys the variation between each and every individual client. When not studying for the CPA exam Collin enjoys playing tennis, spending time with his pets and traveling.
Denise Kresl – Staff Accountant
Denise graduated from Colorado State University in 1996 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. She has been working in tax and accounting since 1996 and became an enrolled agent with the IRS in 2009. She specializes in QuickBooks, Business Consulting, Accounting and Income Tax Preparation and Planning. She has had the opportunity to work in many different areas of accounting including non-profit, private business, construction etc. The last 23 years of her career have been a great learning experience that she would not trade it for anything. It has opened the door to so much more than just the accounting side of business, and has brought her many long standing relationships as well. In her construction days she had the opportunity to learn welding. The funniest compliment she has ever received “For an accountant you have a great personality”.
Aside from accounting she enjoys many other hobbies and interest. As a Colorado native she loves hiking, biking and being outdoors as much as possible. Weight lifting and hip hop dance are some of her favorite activities to relieve the stress of a busy tax season. When Denise is not outside or on an adventure she is at home either reading, writing or watching a good movie.
Ben Means – Payroll Specialist
Ben joined the team in 2018 as a Payroll Specialist. He attended Front Range Community College with a focus in Theatre. A penchant for numbers, details, and customer service brought him in the pathway of Payroll Vault and he is excited to be a part of this team!
In his free team, he enjoys a wide array of activities ranging from cycling, disc golf and running, as well as movies, video games and reading.
Kathryn Murphy – Staff Accountant
Kathryn Murphy joined the team in 2017 as an intern and transitioned to a staff accountant in 2018. She’s currently attending Colorado State University and will graduate in December of 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. She intends to start studying for the CPA exams soon after graduation. Kathryn is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor Online. Her focus is income tax preparation, sales tax preparation and bookkeeping. When she’s not working, Kathryn enjoys playing tennis, cooking, and taking care of her 2 dogs.
